Project: Study of Rural-Urban Migration in Vietnam with Insights from China and Indonesia, 2012

The AusAID-funded Project led by Prof Xin Meng, Study of Rural-Urban Migration in Vietnam with Insights from China and Indonesia, had it's first meeting held on the 9-12 January 2012 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The focus of the project is to collect data and implement analysis on about 2,000 migrant households in two major Vietnamese cities: Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The research will be integrated into the RUMiCI project for a comparative study with the rural-urban migration in China and Indonesia, which has been carried out up to date.


Makassar Workshop, Indonesia 2011

The RUMiCI team organised a serial of seminars at Makassar, Indonesia from 3 - 5 February 2011. Approximately 95 participants have attended the workshop, including three of the RUMiCI team from Canberra (Prof. Chris Manning, Prof Budy Resosudarmo, Dr Sherry Tao Kong), thirty of the other team members (From Yogyakarta 10 peoples, Medan 4, Samarinda 6, Tangerang 3, Makassar 7), forty of the UMM participants, and twenty-two of the Non-UMM participant including local government officials.


2nd RUMiCI Conference, Yogya Indonesia: Crisis and Socio-Economic Dynamics 2009

The second annual RUMiCI conference was successfully held on 28th-30th January 2010 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It was co-hosted by the Australian National University and the Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, Indonesia and sponsored by the World Bank, the ANU College of Business and Economics, the Ford Foundation and Gadjah Mada University.


Workshop on Rural-Urban Migration in Indonesia 2009

In collaboration with the Indonesian National Development Planning (Bappenas), RUMiCI successfully conducted a workshop in the Bappenas Building, Jakarta, Indonesia on 10 February 2009. The event was co-organised by Ms. Rahma Iryanti, Director for Labor and Employment Development of Bappenas, and moderated by Dr. Bambang Widianto, Deputy Minister of Bappenas. Dr. Prasetijono Widjojo, Deputy Minister of Bappenas also actively participated in all sessions of the workshop. The RUMiCI team gratefully acknowledges that the funding for this workshop was made available by AusAID.


The RUMiCI Conference, 10-12 December 2008, Canberra

The RUMiCI Conference was conducted at the Australian National University (ANU) on 10 to 12 December 2008. About 20 international and 30 local academics and professionals were present at the conference, including researchers from government agencies, e.g. AusAID and FaHCSIA. A great number of research students also part of the participants of the conference. The conference was a two-and-half-day program covering a wide range of topics.
