Biography

Dr Yijuan Chen is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Australian National University. His research interests are centred in applied microeconomics, particularly in health economics and industrial organization. His research theoretically analyses and empirically evaluates the intended and unintended consequences of public policies, such as hospital payment reforms, public disclosure policies, and counter-epidemic policies. He has published in leading economics journals including Journal of Health Economics, Health Economics, and Journal of Economics & Management Strategy. Yijuan collaborates with leading researchers across Australia and overseas. The research projects he participated in have won prestigious grants including those from the Australian Research Council's Discovery Project, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2013, his research on hospital waiting time policies was awarded the Early Career Research Prize by the Australian Health Economics Society. Yijuan has taught a broad range of economics courses, from undergraduate introductory micro and macro economics to more advanced, postgraduate courses such as Applied Micro-econometrics and Health Economics. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Southampton.
